🤑 Biggest Christmas spenders will be Gen Z

Talking at Reuters annual leadership conference in New York, Shopify boss Harley Finkelstein shared that Gen Z is expected to spend the most money during Christmas.

Finkelstein said, “Gen Z will be the biggest spenders this holiday season. I don't think it's that surprising. How they're spending, though, is going to be really interesting.”

He also talked about how people used to think of social media as a place to find items to buy. Now, it's becoming a spot where you can actually buy things right away. Especially the Gen Z demand that!

And they want to help people do that by working together with social media sites like Instagram and TikTok.

"Gen Z want to actually complete the purchase right there, and so that's what we're trying to empower."

👨‍💻 Speaking of Gen Z, they love Pinterest!

Pinterest achieved its highest-ever monthly active users in the third quarter, reaching 482 million, with Gen Z driving the growth as the fastest-growing and most engaged demographic on the platform.

Monthly active users consistently increased by over 7% throughout 2023.

And Gen Z, comprising 42% of Pinterest users, is considered an emerging powerhouse.

It’s noted in the report that the 'Shop The Look' feature especially contributes to advertising success for brands and influencers.

This is in line with what Finkelstein said about Gen Z wants to buy right at the spot, isn’t it?

Luxury brands like Dior and Louis Vuitton are already leveraging Pinterest's influence on Gen Z fashion trends.
