In the 14th episode we did with successful D2C entrepreneurs, we had a really interseting conversation with Henry Pruwer, founder of the luxury diamonds brand, HP Diamonds!

Here are some highlights from our chat:

🌍 Global Diamond Hub. Before starting his own brand in London, Henry spent many years in Antwerp, Belgium, where 80% of the world's diamonds pass through. And he gained lots of valuable experience in the diamond industry!

🏠 Being close to your people. Recognizing London's potential as a thriving international hub, Henry returned to the UK to start a new chapter in his career and opened up a store in Hatton Garden, where many fine jewelry stores are located.

Hatton Garden is the heart of London for luxury and jewelry 💎 

💔 Customer loyalty and personalization. Henry said traditional local jewelers have faded due to industry consolidations. Corporations like Signet, with thousands of outlets, have altered the landscape, diminishing the personal touch.

And that’s exactly why, loyalty is a rare gem in the modern jewelerry market.

So to gain loyal customers, Henry’s still offering a very personalized experience, banking on referrals for growth. He’s listening to his customers and building actual relationships!

💻 Blockchain in Diamonds. According to Henry, the diamond industry is racing to adopt every technological development to improve its image and attract younger generations. And blockchain is one of those technologies.

With blockchain, diamond stores could
1. Trace a diamond's journey from mining to retail, addressing the desire for transparency. 🔍
2. Assure younger generations about eco-friendly choices, making Blockchain a tool to prove the diamond industry's sustainability.🌱 

💎 Natural vs. Lab-Grown Diamonds. According to Henry, natural diamonds are still superior to lab-grown, with value from billions of years of formation and stability. In contrast, lab-grown diamonds, despite aesthetic appeal, depreciate rapidly and lack the enduring quality of natural diamonds.
But they’re still preferred by many due to economic and sustainability concerns.

During our chat, Henry showed an example of natural vs. lab-grown diamonds. Guess which one is which?

💍 Why do we buy diamonds anyways? Even though the industry had its fair share of criticism, Henry still believes diamonds - engagement rings in particular- are symbols of value. Diamonds remain cherished tokens of affection, passed down through generations, irrespective of changing marriage dynamics. So that’s why we still buy diamonds when proposing!

🚀 Digital Transition in 2023. With all that being said, Henry is now moving his business to the digital to ensure the sustainability of his business. And he started by building a website!

🖥️ Building Online Presence. He’s working with freelancers on website design, social media presence, and other digital aspects of his business.

📸 Visual Storytelling. Instagram takes center stage for Henry, focusing on visually showcasing craftsmanship and engaging with clients.

Diamonds speak for themselves!

🌐 Multifaceted Approach: Recognizing the importance of a diverse online presence, Henry actively works on enhancing visibility through various channels. He’s active on LinkedIn, as well as Facebook and Instagram. He also does podcasts and other interviews to make his brand more visible.

🌟 Personal Branding: Henry envisions the future closely tied to his personal identity, using digital tools to amplify the personal connection with clients.

🛡️ Reputation Matters: The core of Henry's brand lies in quality service and earned reputation, using digital platforms strategically to enhance, not replace credibility.

As Henry is still new to the digital landscape, his digital toolstack is relatively small! So he use:
